Construction of the Atom Smasher Mk II began in July 2007. The initial steps included fabrication of turret-loaded boards and installation of components. Click on thumbnails to see full sized (1600 X 1200) images.

Completed circuit boards

Construction of the chassis was completed in mid-August. The chassis was fabricated by Mike Schuette with some help from Mason Wolak. The images show the chassis with tube sockets, grommets, and wire loops mounted.

The first step in preparing the chassis was to mount the transformers, AC mains and fuse, then wire them to the mounted hardware. 1/2" standoffs were also mounted to prepare for inclusion of the circuit boards.

Once the hardware was successfully mounted and wired into place, the circuit boards were added. Three boards were used, one for power amp rectification, one for power supplies for the power tube and phase inverter, and one for the preamp. These were wired to their respective tubes and variable resistors as per the schematic.
